Shirt to Skirt

Skirt: Thrifted and redone- $1.00

I found this men's Gap shirt at a garage sales a few weeks ago for only $1.00!  Large men's knit shirt is the easiest thing to find a thrift store (or your husband's closet). This is possibly the easiest tutorial to make, so get sewing!

Step 1. Take an oversized skirt 
Step 2. Lay an old pencil skirt on top of your shirt to make your pattern
Step 3. Cut out, and sew the edges

...and yes, it really is that easy.

I have seen this shirt floating around pinterest lately and thought it was really cute. While walking around the thrift store I found this big baggy men's shirt that was perfect for the job.

Directions

Step 1: Cut out the ribbing from around the neck, then hem the raw edges

Step 2: Cut off desired length and hem

Step 3: Take the extra fabric you cut from the length, and make a pocket shape

Step 4: Sew the pocket to the shirt, and sew your coat zipper directly on top of your pocket

Step 5: Roll the sleeves, then using the ribbing you cut from the neck, sew the ribbing ties around the rolls on the sleeves

Step 6: Your shirt is now ready to wear!

I went to the thrift store last week and found another shirt just like this one, so they are very easy to find. So go pick one up, and do some experiementing!

 

The Blue Skirt

Skirt:Thirfted-$3.50

This skirt was a quick fix, and took me all of 10 minutes to alter. To make this fun pencil skirt I just took in the sides, and the length. This is easily my new favorite skirt, and you would never know it was purchased at a Thrift Store.

Over sized grandma shirt

Shirt: Thrifted $1.50

Just a few inches off the sides, sleeves, and length and this over sized grandma shirt is turned into a fashionable top. These over sized shirts are everywhere in thrift stores, so get sewing.

Thrift Store Redo

Dress: Thrifted $5.00

When I saw this dress at the local thrift store I knew it would be a quick and easy fix (meaning no unpicking, and NO shoulder pads!). With a few quick fixes, this light pink sack dress was turned into a perfect closet staple... not bad for $5.00. 

Step 1: Try on your dress & measure how much fabric you would like to take in
Step 2: Pin and sew
Step 3: Try on your dress and see if any other alterations are needed (in this case I liked the sleeves and length)
Step 4: If you would like a more fitted waist, darts can be added to the back
Step 5: Press seams and enjoy!

 We had a great 4th of July with family and friends. We camped in the backyard (my kind of camping!), had a wonderful pancake breakfast, went to the parade downtown, swam at the local water park, went to colonial days downtown, then ended the day with the stadium of fire fireworks show. All and all it was a wonderful day.
